The Philastropher

The monthly newsletter of the San Antonio Astronomical Association has been in continuous publication since July 1974. The name "Philastropher" was coined by the late Dr. Harlan J. Smith when he was Director of McDonald Observatory. The word "Philastropher" comes from the prefixes "phil," meaning "loving" or "fond of ," and "astro," meaning "stars" or "the heavens": literally "lover of the stars." We use this name in honor of Dr. Smith and for all those with a passion for astronomy.
